TERRA PERMA
2004

During the autumn 2004 I spent two months at Longyearbyen, Svalbard, where I realized how the landscape affected me. I meet a landscape which is characterized by the changes of nature and as a human being I felt extremely vulnerable. The feeling of smallness towards the gigantic mountains, the constant threat from polar bears, the wind and the rain in my face. But there were also the changes of light, from midnight sun to darkness and the perma frost which seemed to live a life of its own. I made a series of photographs picturing this smallness and looked for a different angle of the landscape.
